Decriminalization of "homosexuality", legal protection against discrimination, recognition of same-sex relationships and same-sex families. These all fit under an umbrella of issues that we may call sexual or intimate citizenship. The discussion will take place on August 10 from 18:00 in Langhans, Centrum Člověka v tísni. This event will be held primarily in English.

We all know that different countries in the world have approached these issues diversely with sometimes starkly distinct attitudes. However, aside from comparisons, we might also ask questions such as how do these differences actually change and influence people's lives.
Our event will focus on presentation and discussion of sexual citizenship stressing the perspective of same-sex relationships and we will specifically focus on discussing invisible boundaries that have been erected due to differences in recognition of same-sex couples' place within the society.
As we strive to organize a practical and not solely theoretical event, we invited Gabriel from Slovakia and Neil from New Zealand who met each other some 14-15 years ago in New Zealand where they got married shortly after the marriage equality reached this state in South Pacific.
Nowadays, the couple lives in Slovakia where they lack legal recognition and Neil has to repeatedly apply for working visa because the Slovak state does not recognize their familial status and Neil's right for permanent residency while accompanying his spouse Gabriel.
